A spec sheet will not tell you whether a racket is yours. But ninety minutes of liveball will.
That was the premise on Saturday, July 11, at the Biltmore Tennis Center. Yonex brought their four newest frames and On brought the Roger 3's and Fire's, and rather than lay any of it out on a folding table we put all of it straight into live play. Four courts, 40 players, co-hosted with Gui Cunha and open first to his players and ours.
On offered twenty percent off up to three items for anyone who wanted to take a pair home. Tennis Plaza set up on site, selling at a discount and putting thirty percent coupons and gift cards behind the first three rackets sold. Bask covered everyone in sun protection, courtesy of the founder (who is a local and MRC member).
In the end, we had buyers for new frames on the spot, Asics loyalists who changed to On in the days succeeding the event, and $150 of Tennis Plaza gift cards handed out to winners or target practice.
The usual version of a demo day is a tent, a rack of rackets, and a clipboard. Ours was a full morning of hard play in July in Miami, with three brands there because they wanted to be in the middle of it rather than beside it. Demo days ask you to imagine how a racket feels. This one handed it to you and made you earn the answer.
Rackets aside, the fastest way to learn your game is to play matches that count. The Player Challenge runs year round, open to members and non members. Come find out more here.
