MRC's New Live Tennis Rating

Tennis has always rated people with a shrug. You call yourself a 3.5 or a 4.0 when you sign up, and the number sits there for a year, maybe longer, whether you have gotten better or quietly fallen off. Two players who are nowhere near each other carry the same label for twelve months. You cannot build good matches on top of guesswork that rough.

So we stopped using it and built our own. A dynamic rating that benefits our members and non-members who participate in our Player Challenge flex leagues and flex tournaments. It does not hand you a 3.5. It reads you as a 3.87. Our accompanying Player Cards will then make dynamic suggestions on what you need to do to reach the next level.

And it stays current. Instead of an annual guess, your number refreshes every 30 to 60 days, so it reflects who you are now. No longer waiting a year to get your new rating.

Two things make it honest and it counts more than wins: it reads how you played and who you played, so a tight loss to a stronger opponent can lift you while an easy win over a weaker one barely registers. Nobody pads a number here by beating people they were always going to beat. And it sharpens the more you play and how recently you played. Every set you log with us, member or not, is another read on your level.

That is the trade. Play with us, often, against real competition, and you get something almost no amateur ever has: an honest, current, precise read on exactly how good you are right now.

It is our number, not an official rating. If you ever think it has you wrong, tell us and we will look. But it is built from your actual tennis, not a box you checked once and forgot.

The Fall season is on, and the next Fall Player Challenge Sprint starts Oct 12. Come put a real number on your game.
